"Discuss in detail how two comedy programs offer
audience pleasure."
Miranda is a show
which offers lots of pleasures to a certain audience. The audience age is aimed
at around 30-40 years, because the age of the main character is in that age
range in the episode (S1E04) it will reveal more about her.
One of the pleasures
which I picked out was the familiarity and recognition between the characters
in the show and the audience. This would be due to them both being the same age
so will know the same things that they want. This is shown when she talks
directly to the camera and talks straight to the audience which engages them
with the show and makes the audience feel happy because they are able to relate
their lives with Miranda’s
Another pleasure was anticipation and suspense in the
show and there is an example of this when she admits to being "Amanda Barns" and waiting until it would unfold and that
makes the audience excited and makes them want to keep watching until it does
so it keeps the audience focused on the show. By using anticipation and
suspense throughout the show makes them enjoy it because the audience will be
engaged with it because they will want to know how it is going to be resolved
and this links to how the audience also gets pleasure from the resolution at
the end because nothing bad happened at the end leaves the audience with
relief.
Another one of the pleasures in Miranda is making the
audience feel more superior than Miranda and this is shown when she gets
excited about the hand dryers in the toilets from one of the clips, and because
she finds that appealing it gives the audience humour because they wouldn't
find that exciting which shows she is less educated than the audience. The
reason why it makes the audience enjoy the show is because it makes them feel
higher over Miranda and can laugh at her because she doesn’t have the knowledge.
This might link to the audience’s lives because it shows
